Alerts and notifications
Get a push notification on your phone or computer, or an email, when a print pauses, a printer reports an error or a Hub goes offline. You choose which alerts reach you and how.
Rackrew can tell you when the farm needs you: a print the printer paused, an error on the display, a failed print, a Hub that went offline. Alerts arrive as a push notification on your phone or computer, as an email, or both. You choose which alerts you get and how, under Settings → Notifications. Each person in a farm sets this for themselves.
Turn on push on a device
Open Settings → Notifications on the device that should ring and click Turn on alerts on this device. Allow notifications when the browser asks. A test alert arrives straight away. Repeat this on every phone and computer you want alerts on; all of them are listed under Your devices, where you can test or remove each one.
- Android, Windows, Mac, Linux: works in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. On a computer the browser has to be running. Running in the background is enough, and Chrome and Edge do that by default.
- iPhone and iPad: Apple only delivers alerts to web apps on the Home Screen (iOS 16.4 or newer). In Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen, open Rackrew from the new icon, and turn alerts on there.
No app from an app store is needed.
What you can get
| Alert | Sent when | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Print paused by the printer | a printer paused a running print by itself: filament ran out, a clog, spaghetti detected, the door opened. Not sent when you paused it from Rackrew | push + email |
| Printer error | the printer reports a new error, in the words its own display uses | push + email |
| Printer offline | a printer stopped answering its Hub | push |
| Print failed | a print ended in failure and the printer left rotation | push + email |
| Print finished | a print is done; says so when the bed has to be cleared | push |
| Print started | a printer started a job | off |
| Queue entry done | every copy of a queue entry is printed | off |
| Hub offline | a Hub or bridge has been silent for 3 minutes; you also hear when it's back | push + email |
| Filament running low | a spool may not last another print like the last one | push |
| Maintenance due | a service task is due or overdue, checked every morning | push |
The same problem on the same printer alerts at most once every half hour, however often the printer's sensor flickers. A newer alert about the same printer replaces the older one on your lock screen instead of stacking up.
Quiet hours
Turn on Quiet hours to hold back alerts at night. Critical alerts still come through: a paused or failed print, a printer error and a Hub going offline. If you don't want those at night either, switch them off. Alerts held back still show under Recent alerts, and Alerts in the sidebar counts the ones you haven't seen.
Slack, Discord, Home Assistant
Every alert is also a webhook event (printer.paused, printer.error,
bridge.offline, …), so you can send them anywhere that accepts a webhook.
